As a young boy, I collected all the loose change after mom dumped all the coins out everyones pockets before she through the cloths in the washing machine. It added up and I quickly filled a small coffee can with 90% junk silver coins. I sure wish that it was this easy to find coins today.

My 9 year old son is very enthusiastic about finding valuable junk silver bullion coins. Every time that our family goes on shopping trips, . . . → Read More: There Is Fun In The Hunt For Silver Coins

Do silver coins have more options for selling versus bars?

Question by : Do silver coins have more options for selling versus bars?
I am interested in investing in silver. My question is, in the future, when it comes time to sell, which will be easier to unload, coins or bars. Bars would be more convenient to store and sell in one lump but you could sell the coins at a coin shop right, instead or strictly to a precious metal buyer? Any experienced advice is appreciated.

Is there any way to purchase newly minted silver dollar coins at a discounted dealer mark-up?

Question by Ron C: Is there any way to purchase newly minted silver dollar coins at a discounted dealer mark-up?
I’m a novice at investing in silver coins. Coin dealers are claiming a $ 1.50 fee per coin and it doesn’t matter if I buy one or a hundred or more…the fee is still the same. I’m interested in about a hundred and I feel that a $ 1.50 dealer fee per coin for that many coins is a little steep. How can I get a better rate?

Can I use a one dollar silver certificate today in trade for silver coins?

Question by frittlebugs: Can I use a one dollar silver certificate today in trade for silver coins?
I just found 4 1957 silver certificate dollars and was wondering if I could cash them in for silver coins. Anyone know?

Best answer:

Answer by Major EyeswaterSilver Certificates were abolished by Congress on June 4, 1963 and all redemption in silver ceased on June 24, 1968.

At a bank, it’s worth $ 1, but a nice crisp uncirculated one is worth about $ 5.00 to a currency collector.
